PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
On October 23, the Ministry Council met for the final meeting of 2017. Church staff, leadership and congregants gathered to discuss church business, finances and ministry updates.
The 2018 budget was unanimously approved by the members of the council. Next year’s budget for both income and expenses is $2,646,554; an increase of about 6% from the 2017 budget.
Along with the usual business, three initiatives were proposed by the Executive Committee as our goals for next year. Our budget, ministry plans and vision for 2018 will encompass focusing on young families and adults, establishing new opportunities for community through Growth Groups and potentially purchasing the five acres of land on the west side of the Redeemer Campus.
The land acquisition discussion was led by Pastor David Goran and Mike Thompson, Chair of the Give Implementation Team. With the exponential growth the Redeemer campus has experienced in its first year, they are likely to max out at capacity within the next year. Factoring in also that the land along Highway 6 is becoming a hot commodity with HEB building a new store and lights and medians being placed along the highway, now is the time to purchase the land. We are in discussions with the current owner and these discussions will continue until an agreement can be made. Once this happens, a Called Charge Conference of the Ministry Council will be called to vote upon the matter and make the final decision.
A large percentage of our members are currently not in a Sunday school class, Bible Study or small group. In 2018 we will begin Growth Groups and model after the current Redeemer Campus Growth Groups. Growth Groups are a small gathering of individuals or couples that includes a study, fellowship and a meal. A pilot group of five couples has been meeting this fall and in the spring will branch out to lead subsequent groups.
We are also considering new ways to reach out to families such as creating opportunities to connect with Upward parents during basketball and cheer practice, being present during drop off and pick up to meet MCP families and reaching out to people off campus.
