A Growth Group consists of at least 8 people that gather together and engage in activities to help the group members grow, share, serve, and give-the 4 core values at FUMC Pearland. By establishing “elements” of Growth Groups instead of defining an ideal “model,” we empower group facilitators to design their groups in a true “as we go” nature while creating opportunities for each person to contribute his/her unique gifts.
Scroll below for some frequently asked questions:
What will my growth group look like? Most groups are organized according to the facilitator’s life stage-single, newly married, young adult, young family, families with older children, empty nesters, mature couples, etc.
Where do groups meet? Groups can meet in homes, coffee shops, restaurants, at FUMC Pearland, or wherever works best for the group.
When do groups meet? Most groups meet 2-4 times per month, but our groups are more than just a program or a Bible study. We want our groups to pursue life together by connecting outside of the scheduled meetings. Significant and authentic relationships help us to be more like Christ. The groups choose the day and time they want to meet. Most groups meet for 1 ½ to 2 hours, where about half the time is devoted to food and fellowship and the other half is for Bible study and prayer. We ask that the group stay together for at least the first study, which is 8 weeks long. After the first study, the group can decide if they want to continue to meet. FUMC Pearland hopes that Growth Groups will have a desire to stay together for an extended period of time.
Is childcare available? Yes, childcare is available for the first Bible Study (8 weeks). The church will schedule childcare workers and pay the workers. After the 8 week study, the group is asked to find their own workers and pay them directly.
