About Us

Welcome to First United Methodist Church Pearland!

At First Methodist Pearland, we live to Follow Jesus, Build Real Relationships, Grow in Real Discipleship, and Experience Real Transformation. We are a community of people who love God, care about families, believe in developing and growing friendships around faith, and have a desire to make a real difference in our community.

First United Methodist Church Pearland has been an active faith community in the Pearland area for over 120 years.  Our church has always been known as a “caring” church. We currently have two worshiping communities: a Traditional service held in our sanctuary and a Contemporary service, called NewSong, held in our Family Life Center. No matter what you’ve been through or where you come from, you are welcome here and would be honored to welcome you on Sunday morning.

What We Believe

As we live out our mission, we endeavor to be a faith community that has the following attributes:

  1. A community focused on Jesus through consistent preaching of the Gospel and leading with a focus on the future.

  2. A community where we encourage participation in Discipleship Groups (Sunday School and Growth Groups) meeting regularly to grow in faith, studying God’s word and serving in our community and beyond.

  3. A community focused on building relationships, meeting new people and letting ourselves be known with the ultimate goal of sharing Jesus relationally and authentically.

  4. A community that celebrates our outreach impact and is dedicated to the investment of hours, people, and dollars to share Jesus to those outside of Sunday morning by developing partnerships with other organizations and community groups.

  5. A multi-generational, intergenerational community,  intentional in developing cross-generation ministry, events, and service opportunities designed to build connection and discipleship between members of all ages.

Theologically, we are committed to the core, historic, orthodox doctrines of Christian faith, held by the church for almost 2000 years and articulated in the Apostles Creed:

We believe in God, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. On the third day, he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and from there shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Our denominational affiliation is with the United Methodist Church, which derives its inspiration from the life and works of John Wesley.
